Weekly Round up – w/e 25th February

Cross Country Running

20 juniors went to the PECO Cross Country at Roundhay Park, an opportunity to race on one of the country’s best courses but sadly now not used for major events. In the primary age run, of 180 runners, James Hodgkinson was 22nd, Josh Reid 26th, and Harriet Brown 8th girl.

In the secondary race, James Bastow had another good run in this series to finish 12th of the 120 runners, and 3rd Under 13. Our girls were particularly strong headed by Kate Setchell 2nd, Hannah Lovett 3rd and leading Under 13, Lucy Davey 4th, Lydia Scott 6th, Nancy Otterburn 8th, Imogen Brown 9th. 

In the seniors, a very varied and scenic 4.5 mile trail race, with 400 in the mens race Allan Scott was 108th and Mike Raynes 197th.

Indoor Track and Field

The club had 31 athletes in the North Yorkshire Sportshall Athletics team for the North East match at Middlesbrough. Ranging from some experienced Under 15s through to new Under 11s who haven’t been in athletics long and doing their first competition. All competed really well, and had a great afternoon as North Yorkshire dominated.

The Under 13 and 15 teams all won, meaning they have qualified for the National Final at Stoke in April. Zoe Bind was the winning all rounder, winning her sprint, shot put, and vertical jump. Our Final qualifiers are Juliette Callau, Sophia Horsfall-Samb, Juliette Macquin-Jones, Imogen Bind, Matilda Baxter, Willow Goor, Fleur Farmer-Beasley, Zac Brooke, Felix Mitchell, Kai Liversidge, Ben Falkingham, Joseph Mapplebeck, Ted Wright, Nathaniel Wade, Murray Barnard, Gabriel Thompson, Zoe Bind, Jessica Thirlwell, Hannah Mapplebeck,  Lily Craske, Florence Hodgkins, Max Longthorne, Jesse Watt, William Gilmore, Elliott Moon

Parkrun

16 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. There was a club vet 35 record from Therese Jansson as she beat her own record by 9 seconds with 20.20 on the Knavesmire. Also on the Knavesmire Holly Moss made a welcome re-appearance as she came 2nd in 18.37 with Lucas Stabler coming 3rd in 16.29. Juliet Horne broke 20 minutes for the first time, just, as she won at Selby in 19.59. Simon Bolland-Cage also ran a course PB with 16.28 to win at Dewsbury. James Bastow came 3rd at Easingwold in 20.00 with Nina Hopkins coming 3rd at Heslington in 20.57. There were junior age group wins for Noah Stipetic and Bethany Ellerker with a veteran age group win for Dave Lancaster. Noah Stipetic also won the York Junior Parkrun in 8.14.
