Weekly Round up – w/e 3rd March

Indoor Track and Field

Scott Lincoln came 10th in the final of the shot putt competition in the World Indoor Athletics Championships that were held in Glasgow on Friday night. Scott had a best throw of 20.36m.

Scott doesn’t have to wait long for his next appearance in a GB vest as he has been picked to compete in the European Throwing Cup next weekend in Portugal.

Road Running

Simon Bolland-Cage ran 31.55 in the Trafford 10k to come 105th in a high standard race. Miles Watson took 3 seconds off his PB in the Leeds University 5k as he ran 17.25. Dave Lancaster missed out on the vet 65 prize in a sprint finish in the Liversedge Half Marathon as he ran 1.37.36. Dave ran the first ever Liversedge half marathon 28 years ago and keeps going back for more. He must like the hilly course!

Cross Country Running

A few athletes represented North Yorkshire in the big younger athletes cross country in Leicestershire. It was very muddy, and hectic with big entry and high standard with athletes from all over the country. In the Year 7 race, Isaac Robson was 100th and Joseph Mapplebeck 108th out of 130. In the Year 6, Josh Reid was 136 and James Hodgkinson 194, and in the girls Harriet Brown was 101st. There were about 260 in each race.

A few older juniors went to the NYSD at Richmond, for a change a dry and mostly firm course on the moor above Richmond. Very scenic, but tough running with long courses and a very long hill each lap. A nice low-key run out in pleasant conditions. In the Under 15 girls, Emily Rycroft was 3rd, Nina Hopkins 5th, Isla Watson 6th and Bea Thomson 10th. In the Under 17 Men, small numbers but some good athletes. Sam Dickinson was 3rd and Miles Watson 5th, which looked good runs and results (from Dave’s good view as they lapped him as the Over 65 men run with them)

Parkrun

The Robertson-Dovers were the first three finishers in the Conkers parkrun in Leicestershire as Jessica ran 19.43, Sophie 20.27 and Chrissie 21.59. Gianluca Mastrolonardo sped round Dalby in 15.43 for 1st place. Mike Raynes came 2nd at Burton on Trent in 22.23 with Isabel Madden came 3rd at Selby in 19.32. Lydia Scott also broke 20 minutes for the first time as she ran 19.58 at Heslington to come 4th. There were veteran age group wins for Jon Blake, Dave Lancaster and Steve Wright with Bethany Ellerker and Noah Stipetic getting junior age group wins. Hannah Lovett was the first runner across the line in the York Junior parkrun in 7.46.
