Indoor Track and Field

10 City of York athletes travelled to the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Saturday to contest the U13/15 Northern Indoor Championship which brings together the best talent from across the North of England.

Talia Northcott was the star performer on the day with two outstanding gold medals in the U15 long jump and 60m hurdles. Talia jumped 5.14m in the 5th round of the long jump competition to secure the win after earlier progressing through the hurdles heats (9.32). Talia then won the hurdles final in the penultimate race of the day by diving full length over the line to take the gold medal by 1 1/100th of a second in a personal best time of 9.20.

Imogen Bind jumped 1.30m in the U13 girl’s high jump competition to secure a silver medal. Imogen also took part in the long jump (3.55m).

Elliot Moon jumped a personal Best 1.60m in the U15 boy’s high jump to gain a bronze medal. Elliot also progressed through the hurdles heats (9.65) and finished a creditable 5th place in the final (9.76). He also took part in the long jump with 4.78m his best jump.

Carys Francis won a bronze medal in the U15 girl’s shot put with a personal best throw of 10.33m. Carys also progressed through the hurdles heats with a personal best time of 9.36 before finishing in 5th place in final (9.46).

Juliette Callau had a good day, jumping 1.35m in the U15 girl’s high jump and 4.00m in the long jump before progressing through the hurdles heats with a personal best time of 9.44 seconds. Juliette then followed this up with a new personal best of 9.36 seconds in the final to take 4th place in her first year in this age group.

Alice Gilday was the other York athlete progressing through the heats (9.51) and into the final to finish in 6th place (9.47).

Juliette Macquin-Jones had a really good day in her first year in this age group. She qualified through the heats of the U15 girl’s 200m (28.09) to make the semi-final in which she ran 29.19 seconds. However, she had to dash from the middle of her long jump competition (4.50m) to make that semi-final race. Juliette also ran 10.02 seconds in her heat of the 60m hurdles in what was a very busy day.

Molly Skelton also progressed through the heats of the 200m (27.81) but ran a slightly slower time in the semi-final (28.44). Molly also competed in the 60m hurdles (10.30).

Lily Craske competed in the 200m (28.70) and then qualified through the 60m heats (8.35) to take part in the semi-final where she ran 8.37 seconds.

Holly Nash competed in the long jump (4.31m), the shot (7.74m) and the 60m hurdles (9.94) and gained valuable experience of competition at this level.

12 City of York athletes competed at the English Institiute of Sport in Sheffield on Saturday. The stand-out performance came from Robert Shipley who secured the British Championships qualifying time in the 800m, running 1:51.96.

Tom Wood and Charlotte Stamp both ran the 60m (7.36 and 8.17) and 200m (23.8 and 25.54).

The female Combined Events athletes competed in the 200m, shot and long jump: Esme Pounder – 200m (26.96), shot (9.10m), long jump 4.87m). Frances Hogg – 200m (25.54), shot (10.23m), long jump (5.13m). 

The male combined events athletes did similar events: Isaac Henson – 400m (54.30PB), Shot (11.84m), long jump (5.85m). Will Reid – Shot (10.99) and long jump (6.64m).

Aidan Downey also competed in the shot, throwing 8.50m.

Edan Petrie (53.31), Megan Ledden (1:00.08), James Palmer (51.97) and Zack Cumberland (52.23 PB) all competed in the 400m with James and Zack contesting a thrilling finish.

Road and Cross Country running

Charlotte Mason came 3rd in the Dewsbury 10k in a time of 34.45. Simon Bolland-Cage ran 32.17 and Mark Bolland-Cage 33.15 in the same race. Dave Lancaster had a difficult journey to the Blackburn Winter Warmer 10k and only arrived at the race 10 minutes before the start. Dave was first over 60 across the line in 44.38

The British Universities Cross Country Championships took place on the old golf course at Temple Newsam in Leeds. Gianluca Mastrolonardo (16th), Archie Lawson (21st), Tommy Shaw (46th) and Ed Brown (129th) all took part in the men’s B race. Lucy Gaskin came 148th in the women’s B race.

A few runners went to the North Yorkshire South Durham Cross Country League at Whitby, very good running conditions, and the very steep hill climb for the Under 13, 15. Jaxon Marshall was 5th in the Under 11 Boys, Hannah Lovett 3rd in the Under 13, and Emily Rycroft 2nd in the Under 15. A good result for all of them.

17 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. There were first places for Cole McAndrew (16.46) at Rothwell, William Keens (18.06) at Easingwold and Juliet Horner (21.16) at Selby. Allan and Lydia Scott were both 2nd at Heslington in 18.47 and 20.58 respectively with William Hardy coming 2nd on the Knavesmire in 17.06. There were veteran age group wins for Dave Lancaster, Steve Wright and Peter Hanson with a junior age group win for Wilson Moisey-Smith. James Hodgkinson came 2nd in the York Junior Parkrun in 8.45.
