Weekly Round up – w/e 14th June

Track and Field

A number of City of York AC athletes made the journey across the M62 to Stretford to compete in the Trafford Open and BMC event on Tuesday night. There were some fantastic performances, with wins, season’s bests, and some huge personal bests:

Mark Bolland-Cage 8.55:26 3000m PB, Archie Lawson 1.50:18 800m PB, Lottie Langan 2.10:71 800m SB, Edan Petrie 1.55:21 PB, Ed Brown 1.59:54 PB, William Hardy 3.58:19 PB [7 secs improvement on previous best] and Isaac Stabler 3.56:80 PB.

Congrats to all and to the team at Trafford for putting on such a well-run event.

Tommy Shaw narrowly missed out on a sub 4 minutes mile as he ran 4.00.36 at the University of Birmingham Track and Field Festival on Saturday.

Road Racing

The club’s road runners were also in action on Tuesday on the Knavesmire in the latest race in the York 10k Road Race League. The Knavesmire course comprises three and a bit laps of the service road and is a bit like running on a very large running track. The course is also York parkrun by two and a lot of runners forgot the times two bit as they set off at parkrun pace only to suffer in the later stages.

Laura Thompson was a convincing winner of the women’s race in 37.11 as she won by nearly 500 metres from York Acorn’ s Erin Bush. Having missed the Tadcaster and Easingwold races Laura needs to run both of the last two races to potentially take the overall league title. Laura’s time also improved her own club vet 35 10k road record by nearly a minute. Julie Mastrolonardo was a comfortable first vet 55 in 44.16 with India Ibbotson (46th in 47.21) and Rachel Bruford (52nd in 48.23) rounding off a good team performance to be 6th in the team race.

Will Torgerson broke the 35 minute barrier as he came 6th in 34.41. Not far behind was Jack Ford in 8th place with a PB of 35.10. Tim Pattison (25th in 37.20), Allan Scott (30th in 37.23), Stephen Dring (44th in 38.24) and Phil Richardson (65th in 39.47) rounded off another good team performance to be 4th team. Steve Wright was comfortably 1st vet 60 in 40.26 but Jon Blake’s in his new carbon plated shoes stormed through to be 2nd vet 60 in 41.02 taking over two minutes off his PB in the process. Along with Laura and Julie these two helped the vets team come joint 2nd in the team race. Mike Raynes (43.03), John Lewis (44.32), Gary Ibbotson (46.09), Joe Brown (49.58), Andy Kennedy (50.49) and Nigel Taylor (52.14) also ran.

The club had fewer runners than normal at Friday night’s race in the York University 5k series due to the North Yorkshire track and field chmapionships that took place on Saturday. Mark Bollnad-Cage fresh from his 3000m PB on Tuesday came 4th in 15.49. Samuel Dickinson made a rare appearance on the road as he ran 16.27 to take 1 second off his PB. Julie Mastrolonardo running 21.44 and Ava Carter 24.21.

Parkrun

Beth Lewis broke her own club under 15 record for parkrun by 8 seconds as she ran 17.34 at Normanby Hall near Scunthorpe. Beth’s time puts her 29th on the all time under 15 rankings at parkrun. Elsewhere on Saturday Will Torgeson (16.53 at Selby), Dan Cheeseman (17.20 at Northallerton) and William Keens (17.31 at Easingwold) all got first places with Harriet Brown (21.32 at North Yorkshire Water Park) and Freddie Clayton (19.02 at New Earswick) getting third places. There were veteran age group wins for Jon Blake, Steve Wright, Dave Lancaster and Peter Hanson with junior age group wins for Josh Reid and Wilson Moisey-Smith. Rafael Palmer came first in the York Junior Parkrun.
