Track and Field
Congratulations to everyone for a brilliant team performance away at the first Northern Senior League fixture at Doncaster on Saturday. So many of you stepped-up to cover for people and fill gaps and there were lots of really excellent performances. Great to get the win too! The next Northern Senior T&F League match is away at Lincoln.
In the Loughborough International, Scott Lincoln won the shot at Loughborough, throwing over 21m a very good early season mark. Ollie Wright finished 2nd in the javelin, only 6cm behind the winner, with a huge pb of 72m 91. Road Racing
The second race in the York 10k Road Race League took place at a sunny Pocklington last night. The out and back course is nearly all uphill to the turn around point near Millington Wood with a mostly downhill return journey except for a tough climb at 7k. Times are normally slow on what is the toughest course in the series in terms of the height climbed on the hills.
Laura Thompson in her debut in the League won the women’s race in 38.12 by nearly a minute from Tadcaster’s Nik Terrega. An impressive run given Laura ran the Gateshead Marathon just nine days ago. This is also a vet 35 club record which means that in the 3 months since joining the club Laura has set age group club records on the road over 5k, 10k, 10 miles, half marathon and the marathon. India Ibbotson (25th in 45.43), Karen Wright (44th in 48.39) and Rachael Bruford (49th in 49.20) ensure the women’s team came 6th.
Improving William Torgerson led home the men’s team in 6th place as he ran an impressive PB on the hilly course in 35.37. Jack Ford, who does most races whatever the surface was next home in 11th place in 36.33. Tim Pattison ran probably his best race for the club as he came 19th in 37.47 with Allan Scott (39.28) edging out Stephen Dring (39.33) by one place. Steve Wright (42.17) made up the team who also came 6th. Phil Richardson (42.46), Mike Raynes (43.19), Jon Blake (43.45), Dave Lancaster (44.58), John Lewis (45.20), Gary Ibbotson (46.28), Joesph Brown (50.36), Andy Kennedy (52.01) and Laurie Parker (52.31) also ran.
In the vets categories Laura Thompson was 1st vet 35. In the vet 60 age group Steve Wright was edged out by two seconds to come 2nd in the age group with Jon Blake 5th. The vets team came 6th in their team event.
The next race in the series is at Easingwold in two weeks time.
