Distance Running Training

We have a successful distance running section and we are the only club in York that caters for road, cross country, fell and middle distance track running at both senior and junior level. New members can join this group straight away because there is no waiting list for this training group.

Distance Running Training Group – Mondays and Wednesdays at 7.00pm at the University of York Athletics Stadium.

The Distance Running Training Group caters for all types of distance runners from 800m to marathon runners who wish to do a mixture of road, cross country, trail and middle distance track running. The Training Group is for seniors as well as juniors in school years 9 to 13.

Monday and Wednesday track sessions.

These are ‘interval’ sessions, that are supervised by qualified coaches, and are aimed at improving runner’s times in races by doing a mixture of faster running followed by recoveries. Runners in this group run 5ks between 14 and 22 minutes. These times are not fixed parameters for joining the training group but give an idea of the speed of the sessions for any newcomer that wish to join these sessions.

Monday steady runs  – 3 miles or 6 miles

Monday’s steady run is aimed at people who enjoy running and want to try out training with a club. It is also an ideal recovery run for runners who raced or did a long training run on the weekend. The 3 mile runs take about 27 minutes whilst the 6 mile runs are a bit faster. We run at a steady pace so that we can have a nice chat and ensure that no-one is left behind.

Runners doing both the track sessions and steady runs meet at the clubhouse at the University of York Athletics Stadium at 7.00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
