The club had a fine day at last Saturday’s Northern Cross Country Relays at Sheffield with all our completed teams finishing inside the top 13 places.
The senior men’s team came 7th which is the club’s best performance in a northern event since 2001. Josh Schofield led the team off covering the 2 mile route in 10 minutes 44 seconds to place 7th on the first leg. Angus McMillan was only three seconds slower as he improved the team to 5th with Tyler Hutchinson taking the team to its highest position of 4th after three legs. James Tucker then ran a good anchor leg as the team came 7th overall.
The club’s senior women’s team narrowly missed out on a top ten finish by coming 11th. Helen won a close battle of the Wilkinsons as she finished ahead of Becky on the first leg. Georgia Rothwell then improved the A team 16 places on the second leg with the team’s fastest leg time of 12 minutes 44 seconds. Katy Wood then improved the team to its final finishing position of 11th on the last leg. The club’s B team finished 31st in the same race.
Both the under 17 and under 15 boys teams came 5th. Josh Dickinson ran his usual strong leg to place second on the opening shoot out in a time of 7 minutes 11 seconds which turned out to be the third fastest of the day. Kyle McLeay and Luca Parker then completed the team on the last two legs. The under 15 boys team emulated their older teammates by matching their 5th place in their event with Finnian Hutchinson running the fastest leg. The club had one other completed team as the under 13 girls team came 13th whilst the under 15 girls team were one runner short of completing a team.
