Endurance running update – 8th & 9th April

The weather over the weekend suggested that summer is finally here as City of York’s runners made a good impression in local road races.
The Vale of York 10 mile race took place at Sunday from Rufforth with Stephen Kirk breaking the 1 hour mark for the first time as he lead home 8 runners from the club in 59.39. Ed Dunn was next home from the club in 64.40. Karen Wood and Joan Brown showed the benefits of training on the track on Thursday night with Karen being the first female in the over 45 category and Joan being 4th in the over 50 category.

The club had 11 runners doing parkruns on Saturday with new member Mark Fitzpatrick being fastest at York with 17.39 for 7th place. Helen Wilkinson broke off from her holiday in Penrith to come 2nd in the parkrun there to place 2nd female.

The club’s under 11s continue to make their presence felt at York junior parkrun with three of the four fastest runners in both the boys and girls categories. Connal Wilson followed last week’s first place with second this week whilst Nancy Marshall was first female runner.
